The City of Dublin will soon begin work on two pedestrian tunnels as part of the ongoing Pedestrian Tunnel Maintenance Plan.
Construction is scheduled to begin on the Emerald Parkway tunnel, west of Dublin Road, March 30, 2026. The tunnel will be closed through July 2, with the exception of May 21-June 8, to allow use during the Memorial Tournament. This project consists of maintenance to the stone veneer, patching deteriorated wall concrete, refurbishing the railing and repairing worn joints. All efforts will be made to limit the impact on the tunnel artwork.
There will be signs, barricades and barrels surrounding the area to notify pedestrians of the closure in advance. There is a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Dublin Road and Emerald Parkway that can be utilized during the closure. This project also includes some intermittent lane closures.
Work on the River Forest tunnel, under Dublin Road, is slated to start at the end of April. During construction, the path will close for three weeks. After which time, the contractor will reopen the path to pedestrian traffic (with protection) while working on the remaining elements of the tunnel.
There is no signalized crossing in this area, so please use caution when crossing Dublin Road. There will be signs, barricades and barrels surrounding the area to notify pedestrians of the closure in advance. This project includes replacing the stone veneer and wall coping, refurbishing the railing and repairing worn joints.
The contractor is permitted to work between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
